Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen Induction Therapy is performed using a medical grade needling pen. Visage uses Derma Pen which is recognised in the USA as one of the world’s leading devices with its advanced technology. Collagen Induction Therapy allows for controlled injury to the skin by mechanically creating small micro channels that are only a few millimetres deep. This procedure is also known as dermal needling.

This pen creates vertical channels into the skin which allows for deep penetration of hyaluronic acid. This wound stimulation helps trigger the formation of new collagen and overall skin rejuvenation. New collagen is generated over 4 weeks after the procedure and continues to regenerate for up to 2 years post one treatment. Cellular matrix, and angiogenesis (the development of new blood supply) to the epidermis occurs which provides the skin with new sources of nourishment. The dermis and epidermis become organised, thickened and smooth giving your skin a radiant glow. This treatment is excellent for improving skin texture, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, healing old scars, minimising pore size, creating new collagen and evening skin tone. For the best results a series of these treatments should be performed.

Prior to the treatment numbing cream can be applied to ensure your comfort. This is removed after a period and the procedure begins. After the session a calming hydrating bio cellular recovery mask is applied. For added treatment the decolletage and back of the hand can be included.

To further upgrade this treatment it may be performed in conjunction with platelet rich plasma therapy – please see the platelet rich plasma services page.

What to expect: After the procedure your skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. This wild diminish greatly after a few hours following treatment and within the next 24 hours the skin will be completely healed. After three days there is barely any evidence that the procedure has taken place.

CIT treatment is not suitable for patients with scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities, a haemorrhagic disorder or haemostatic dysfunction, active bacterial or fungal infection. For darker skin tones there is a increased risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This occurs when the inflammation is prolonged, and the body produces excess melasma. This is rare and there are treatments that can help with this should this occur such as topical steroids or pigment inhibitors. Darker skin tones are more susceptible to this complication however it is till rare. You will be provided with after care instructions. This includes avoiding direct sunlight for the next 24 to 48 hours after treatment.
